Weise Psycho bike kit offers best of both worlds
Well-made and comfortable, wheelworldreviews.co.uk editor DAVID HOOPER says that with a stylish mix of leather and textile, the Psycho outfit from Weise offers the best of both worlds for bikers.
CHOOSING new motorcycle kit needs a bit of thought – after all, you do want to look the part, and as with most things, there is a huge choice out there and not everything on the market is as good as it could be.
Your eventual decision will be influenced by the type of bike you have, the sort of riding you enjoy, and whether or not you use your bike all year round, or just for fun during the summer months.
Textile suits, as I’ve found out this year, can be a bit on the, well let’s say “sticky” side, especially on a warm day and if your particular suit is at the budget end of the market as mine is, it only makes things worse. Leather, on the other hand, can be very expensive, although often more comfortable and therefore worth the extra outlay.
So why not combine the two? This Psycho outfit from clothing manufacturer Weise does just that, using leather in the areas you might need it most, like the shoulders, elbows and knees, and a good textile material called Cordura, everywhere else.
The result is a very smart looking outfit which is comfortable to wear thanks to its breathable design, which keeps the hot day “stickiness” to a minimum. It manages to be waterproof and windproof too, and comes with a breathable lining, as well as a thermal quilted lining which can be removed in the summer. There are also zipped vents on the arms, sides and back of the jacket.
The main zip on the front of the jacked has an internal storm flap to ensure the weather is kept out, and adjustable Velcro straps on the arms help to reduce billowing when you ride at speed.
Inside there is a pocket for your mobile phone and a single internal waterproof pocket to keep your wallet in.
The jacket can be attached to the matching pair of jeans by either a 6in zip at the back, or a large zip which goes right around your body.
The jacket is finished off with reflective piping to the chest, back and arms to improve visibility in the dark, which came in very handy for me on my way back from a bike night in the depths of Lincolnshire, now the nights are starting to draw in.
The jacket comes fitted with CE approved armour to the shoulders, elbows and back, while the jeans have knee and hip protectors built in.
Elasticated straps which attach to press studs allow you to tailor the fit perfectly, making this interestingly-named Psycho suit as comfortable to wear as possible, whatever the weather.
The Weise clothing range is available in a wide range of sizes and all the company’s products are covered by a two-year no-quibble warranty.
