Honda wins bike award
HONDA’S legendary CBR600 has been awarded the title ‘Used Machine of the Year’ in the motorcycle trade’s respected British Dealer News awards.
The British Dealer News Industry Awards, now in their seventh year, are the result of more than 500 motorcycle dealerships across the UK taking the time to vote on seven different categories.
The Honda CBR600 was first launched in 1987 and has been a favourite with the UK’s motorcyclists ever since. The CBR600FH of 1987 boasted around 80bhp, was a revolution in its class and was developed continually to stay ahead of the chasing pack. Engine output was increased to a record setting 100bhp in 1989, before the second generation CBR600F was debuted in 1991.
Further model updates followed throughout the ‘90s, with the third generation machine introduced in 1999. The ever popular CBR600F Sport further revolutionised the supersport class in 2001. Since 2003, the RR version of the CBR600 has been at the forefront of the supersport 600 class, leading the way on the road and on race circuits, with CBRs taking the lion’s share of championship wins in both the British Supersport and World Supersport championships over the last two decades.
Today, the latest version of the CBR600 is the leader in its class. With over twenty years of heritage to its name, Honda’s renowned reliability and quality, and offering a mixture fun, practicality and incredible performance, it’s not difficult to understand why. The latest CBR600RR is also at the cutting-edge of development in safety, now featuring the electronically-controlled Combined ABS system – the world’s first ABS system designed specifically for a sports bikes.
Estimates put the number of CBR600s sold since 1987 at more than half-a-million, making it one of the most successful sports bikes ever and the most successful middleweight sports bike in the world. In the UK today, it’s thought that more than 50,000 new and used CBR600s are in use. Both the Honda CBR600F and RR versions were covered in the ‘Used Machine of the Year’ award.
Steve Martindale, General Manager of Honda (UK) Motorcycles said, “It’s a real testament to the CBR600 range of models, as well as Honda’s enviable build quality and finish, that motorcycle dealers across the country have voted the CBR600 machine their favourite used machine of the year. With a rich history of models stretching back more than 20 years, there really is a CBR600 to suit every pocket and a well-looked after example is a brilliant used bike buy.”
