Prime Minister’s car hits the campaign trail again!
A 1971 Fiat 500 L once owned by Prime Minister David Cameron is back on the campaign trail courtesy of Silverstone Auctions.
The fully restored car has been estimated by the auction house at between £8,000 to £12,000 and it will go under the hammer on November 17 at the Footman James Classic Motor Show at Birmingham’s NEC.
The Fiat was bought by Cameron in 1998 as a surprise birthday present for his wife Samantha, and the couple only covered around 1,000 miles in the 10 years they owned it.
Silverstone Auctions chief Nick Whale said: “No matter what your political persuasion, this is one cool car and we are delighted to be able to offer it for auction.
“After all, it’s not every day that you get the chance to bid for a car that was once owned by a global figure. Our auction, which also contains other classics, modern supercars and competition cars, really does offer the chance to own a slice of automotive history.”
Its past apart, the car is believed to have covered just 13,000 miles from new and has been restored to standard specification by the current owner, which included stripping the entire vehicle and replacing any part that required attention.
David Cameron has his hands full on many fronts, so I’m unsure that our auction will be at the top of his agenda, however, for one lucky new owner this stylish little Fiat will offer many years of happy motoring, whilst also being a genuine investment because of its illustrious history,” added Whale.
