Hyundai hope to cruise to top with i30 Tourer
FOLLOWING the successful launch of its i30 model, Hyundai has revealed the pricing and specification levels for its new generation Tourer model.
Since its launch in March this year, the i30 has been winning awards and the wallets in the UK and the carmaker hopes for similar success with the Tourer, which starts at £16,195 on the road for 120PS Classic.
The i30 Tourer is Hyundai’s fifth new UK model this year and, like its hatchback sibling, combines stylish design with high levels of comfort refinement and efficiency — and a lot more luggage space!
The Tourer adds greater load-carrying capability to the New Generation i30’s overall package, measuring 185mm longer than its hatchback sibling and offering 150 litres of additional luggage space with the seats up and 326 litres with the seats down. Load space is amongst the best in the class, with the New Generation i30 boasting a larger luggage capacity than the majority of its key C-segment rivals. In addition, the i30 Tourer has a greater luggage capacity than some D-segment estates with 528-litres available with seats up. With the seats folded fully flat this increases to 1,642 litres and for added convenience there are underfloor storage compartments too, adding to the i30 Tourer’s versatile nature.
The flowing lines of the exterior, incorporating Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design language, make the Tourer stand out from the traditional and boxy estates. It boasts a sleek and sporty profile yet cleverly conceals a spacious interior.
Tony Whitehorn, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor UK, says: “The New Generation i30 Tourer will help grow Hyundai’s presence in the C-segment. The i30 Tourer is able to meet the demands of both retail and fleet customers as it offers space and versatility along with a range of clean and fuel efficient engines. Running costs are also substantially lower, not only compared with the outgoing i30 Estate, but with key competitors too. Owners benefit from improvements to fuel economy and emissions plus VED and Benefit in Kind and some of the lowest insurance ratings in class.”
There is a choice of two engines in the range with customers able to choose either the 120PS petrol unit or alternatively the 1.6 CRDi diesel unit, in the form of a 110PS or a higher-powered 128PS variant. Both engines are coupled to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Hyundai’s clean and efficient Blue Drive technologies come on all 1.6 CRDi manual models as standard and feature Intelligent Stop & Go Technology. Versus the outgoing Comfort 1.6 CRDi 115PS i30 Estate, the New Generation i30 Tourer Active 1.6 CRDi 110PS Blue Drive is 12 per cent more fuel efficient than its predecessor — returning 67.3mpg on the combined cycle – while emitting 11 per cent less CO2 at 110g/km.
Four trim levels are available starting with Classic, which comes standard with Bluetooth connectivity and voice recognition, multi-function steering wheel and air conditioning. Body coloured door handles and mirrors are standard on the entry level trim along with LED daytime running lights — the only car in its segment to offer this feature across the entire range.
Active trim starts at £17,295 OTR and adds alloy wheels, cruise control with speed limiter, rear parking sensors, electric rear windows and leather steering wheel and gear knob.
Customers wanting additional luxury features can choose Style with dual zone climate control, automatic headlights and front windscreen wipers, front parking sensors and electrically folding door mirrors. Prices for Style models start at £20,095.
The range-topping Style Nav model adds touchscreen navigation plus a rear view parking camera for a £1,000 premium over the Style trim, beginning at £21,095.
Two option packs are available. The first is the Convenience Pack (costing £750), which features keyless entry, engine start/stop button, chrome exterior door handles with illumination, puddle lamps and automatically folding door mirrors.
The Individual Pack (costing £1,000) takes luxury to the next level with leather upholstery, heated front seats plus the supervision cluster with LCD Colour Display. A panoramic sunroof (costing £950) can also be specified on the i30 Tourer. This option plus the Convenience and Individual packs are available on Style and Style Nav.
The New Generation i30 Tourer has been created from start to finish to provide customers with a stylish, efficient, spacious and safe estate. It is manufactured using Hyundai steel and robots to ensure maximum quality throughout and the belief in the product translates into one of the industry’s leading vehicle warranty – the 5 Year Triple Care assurance package.
Whitehorn adds: “Like all new Hyundai passenger cars, the New Generation Hyundai i30 Tourer is backed by our renowned 5 Year Triple Care Warranty. The overall benefits of our warranty mean owners benefit from exceptional aftersales back-up and total peace of mind as it includes a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, five years vehicle health checks and five years free roadside assistance.”
Adding to the i30 Tourer’s value-for-money package, owners can manage their servicing costs with a fixed-price service plan. This enables customers to have complete visibility over servicing costs for three years/30,000-miles for a one-off payment of £299.
The New Generation i30 Tourer is available from Hyundai dealerships nationwide from July 23.
