AMERICAN World Champion racer ‘Fast’ Freddie Spencer will help to ensure the first Footman James Classic Motorbike Show is a roaring success when it opens its door at Birmingham’s NEC from November 12-14.
Fast Freddie will be appearing on the Footman James Vintage Motorcycle Cycle Club stand, where two of his amazing competition bikes will be on display for all to see. He’ll be signing pictures and memorabilia for fans at autograph sessions at 12pm and 3pm each day as well as being interviewed on the live interview stage.
The former 500cc and 250cc racer, who was born in 1961, won the 1978 250cc US National Road Racing Championship, from where he signed to Honda. In 1982 he scored his first GP win at the 500cc Belgian Grand Prix, and in 1983 he won his first 500cc World Championship, battling with Kenny Roberts throughout the year to achieve points supremacy.
Two years later he won both the 500cc and 250cc Grand Prix World Championships – the only rider to do so. In 1985 Fast Freddie also took his last win, at the 500cc Swedish Grand Prix. His ‘double’ will be celebrated with the appearance of 250cc and 500cc Works Honda machines in the exact livery to mark the 25th anniversary this year.
He retired from Grand Prix racing in 1988, but in the 1990s he went back to AMA Superbike Championship, and in 1999 was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
