California dreaming with help from Berghaus
Living in the great outdoors isn’t just the domain of hardcore camping fanatics, you can do it in style and comfort.
Volkwagen has collaborated with outdoor clothing specialists Berghaus to produce a limited edition camper van.
The California Berghaus has been designed to allow easy and enjoyable access to the countryside, without having to “rough it”.
All the normal comforts of the standard California models are there including accommodation for four, electric pop-up roof, integrated kitchen in the rear with fridge and cooker and built-in table and chairs.
The special edition Berghaus model adds a cycle rack, side-mounted awning, bicolour alloy wheels, metallic paint and Berghaus branded mats, waterproof seat covers and badging.
As if that wasn’t enough, each vehicle comes with an exclusive Berghaus pack to add to the outdoor experience. This includes a Freeflow 25 rucksale, two Flare sleeping bags, gloves, hats, insulated mugs, travel water bottle, flask and map case.
On the engine side, the model comes with the 2-litre BiTDI engine with six-speed gearbox. This gives 36.2mpg on the combined cycle and accelerates to 62mph in 12.4 seconds, topping out at 117mph.
The camper van also comes with a host of safety features including anti-lock brakes, traction control, engine braking control and electronic stabilisation programme.
This is the first California special edition and there will be only 80 made, coming in at a price of £47,995 on the road.
