Veterans Run highlights German engineering

TWO of the world’s most iconic companies in the motoring world have joined forces to sponsor this year’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
2011 is the 115th running of the world’s oldest motoring event, organised by the Royal Automobile Club.
Germany is the featured country in this year’s run, so it is particularly poignant that Mercedes-Benz and Bosch are sponsor partners, especially as both celebrate their 125th anniversaries this year.
It was January 1886 when Carl Benz took out a patent on his three-wheeled car, seen by many as the birthday of the motor car. He joined forces with Gottlieb Daimler in 1926 to form Mercedes-Benz.
Robert Bosch founded his business in Stuttgart in November 1886, with the first foreign agency being founded in the UK in 1898.
Being famed in early years for its magneto ignition systems and has developed many important developments over the ensuing years.
For Mercedes-Benz and Bosch, the Veteran Car Run on Sunday, November 6, culminates a year of celebrations for both.
An 1894 Benz Victoria is currently the earliest car to enter the run.
Bonhams will be holding an action on Friday, November 4 in New Bond Street, London, before, on Saturday, around 100 of the participating cars will be on show in Regent.
The first car leaves the capital’s Hyde Park at 7.02am on Sunday with all 500 entrants aiming to reach Brighton between 10am and 4.30pm.
