Mondeo wins green family car title
WHAT Car?’s 2011 award for the greenest family car has gone to the most fuel efficient Ford Mondeo.
Having taken two of the magazine’s trophies in the overall awards in January, the 65.6mpg 1.6-litre TDCi (turbo diesel) version of the Mondeo clinched the green title, too.
What Car? editor in chief Chas Hallett said: “Ford has done great things to the Mondeo. The award-winning 1.6 TDCi is the best green family car, being both a brilliant all-rounder and remarkably eco-friendly with its low CO2 rating of 114g/km.
Within months of going on sale this January, the new Ford Mondeo was voted by What Car? as best overall family and estate car. Now its frugal fuel economy, while giving a rewarding drive, has been rewarded with the What Car? Green Award.
Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain managing director, said: “Thanks to impressive fuel economy, Ford has an outstanding low-carbon vehicle line-up which combines design style, technology and affordability. This Ford Mondeo’s UK-built 1.6 diesel engine is an extraordinary combination of performance and low CO2 and is available across the range from Fiesta to Galaxy.”
This version of the Mondeo produces only 114g CO2/km while returning 65.6mpg — meaning zero road tax in the first year and £30 annually afterwards.
The Ford Mondeo 1.6 TDCi is priced from £19,895 with Bluetooth, cruise control and Easy Fuel, to prevent misfuelling, as standard.
