Busy time ahead for BMW
BMW, as may be expected, is making a big showing at this month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
As well as world premieres for a whole host of its models, including the BMW 1 Series, BMW M5, Efficient Dynamics Editions of both the BMW520d and BMW X1 sDrive20d, they will also be unveiling two new concept cars.
In common with seemingly every piece of new technology these days, the names have to begin with an ‘i’ – and these are no exception, the i3 and i8.
For the German carmaker i means visionary and inspirational. The models are designed with a strong commitment to sustainability and mobility in the urban arena.
Of the two concept cars, the i3 Concept has been dubbed by its designers as a Megacity Vehicle and is presented as the company’s first purely electrically powered production car. It is seen as a premium solution to urban motoring.
The i8 Concept is BMW’s idea of a new generation sports car, both intelligent and innovative. It features a unique plug-in hybrid design and combines an internal combustion engine and an electric drive. The company claims this results in an exceptional driving experience and gives extremly low fuel consumption and emissions.
